Strongest Blues Lineup Yet Explodes For Seven Tries Under The Lights
By John Amos
Mississauga Blues RFC 47 - Toronto Buccaneers 15
The Mississauga Blues RFC Senior Men fielded their two strongest teams so far this season and it showed on the scoreboard as they racked up 16 tries between them.
The First XV gave up an early penalty to go down 3-0 just 4 minutes into the game but answered with their first try eight minutes later. Scrum Half Jackson Mills watched a powerful Blues scrum walk the ball in from the 5m line leaving Mills with about one foot to carry to finish off at the back. Jeff Hogle followed up with the first of six conversions that he would kick on the night.
The Blues went up 14-3 in the 24th minute as Alex Dwhytie dashed down the left side and executed a perfect swan dive to the end zone. The Buccaneers answered quickly with an unconverted try of their own to bring them back within 6, but that would be the closest they would come.
Jackson Amos touched down the first of his two tries on the evening in the 34th minute after a cheeky little move in the end zone to get under the posts after taking a pass from Jason Park . Jeff Hogle and Frank Kang followed up with tries of their own to end the half with the Blues up 33-8.
The Blues' try-fest continued into the second half as they returned the kickoff for a score with Charles Doak notching a score after another nice run and pass from Jason Park. The Buccaneers responded to that one with a try of their own 2 minutes later, but that would be all the resistance that they could muster. Jackson Amos finished the scoring on the evening, crashing in from 20 m out, making the final score 47-15.
Friday night saw the introduction of a new player and the return of an old vet as Jason's brother Jeff Park and Edis Tarkuc both had their first run-outs with the team.
The Blues now have a week off before taking on Balmy Beach at home for another Friday night under the lights, July 6, 2018.
